Tech Consulting
Are you stumped on how to move forward with a project? Trying to find the tech solution that allows the magic of theatre to become a reality? Need some help building an interactive device? I have 2 decades of experience as a creative problem solver, and have been hired to assist with projects at Centaur Theatre in Montreal, the National Film Board of Canada, and by independent artists across the country. My areas of expertise include interactive technologies, sound design and installation, theatre arts, and acoustic analysis.
Grant Writing
Putting together a grant application is a daunting (and often mysterious) process. I have been writing successful grant applications since 2007, and have received support from public and private sector agencies at the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels. These include (but are not limited to) the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Quebec, Saskatchewan Arts Board, and the City of Regina. If you have a project you’d like to get off the ground, I can help.
Recording Studio
Do you have a song stuck in the back of your head that you’d like to get out? Looking for a new and exciting sound for a track you’re working on? Need some editing, mixing or mastering? I have a fully-equipped studio including 1/4″ reel-to-reel decks, a multi-channel speaker system, and a large collection of weird and wonderful musical instruments–sruti box or hurdy gurdy anyone? If you have your album already recorded but want another set of ears or to clean it up a little before you release it to the world, let me know. I’m able to provide audio post production services as well. I’ve mixed and mastered over a dozen albums for myself and other artists at Electricity is Magic.
Mentorship
Are you interested in advancing your skill set in sound-based work? I can help you develop a mentorship program that will build your knowledge base and give you the confidence you need to succeed in your creative projects. I can even help you write a funding proposal so you can get paid while you learn!
Private instruction
I also provide individual and group music lessons for learners of any age and musical ability. I have taught taught music, theatre, and studio arts to kids, college students, and adult learners for over 20 years.
I offer online Guitar, Mandolin, Voice, and Bassoon lessons through Canada Music Academy, but if you’re looking for something a little different, I also offer personalised lessons in Sound Design, Electroacoustic Composition, and Music Technology as an independent instructor. This means I can be more flexible with rates and schedules, and build a learning trajectory that suits your needs and interests.
If you’re looking to customise your sound or create weird and exciting sounds, I can teach you how to add electronics into your set-up. This includes helping you understand when and why you should use different types of microphones, what is happening inside an effects pedal or plugin, and how to apply musical gestures and expression in the digital realm–no matter what instrument you play. I can also teach you how to use the Digital Audio Workstation of your choice so you can record, edit and share your new sound with the world.
